Blackout at Edremit

Edremit is a town in the west of Turkey. It is a touristic place like Bournemouth, famous for its beaches and sun.
Edremit Airport is very small. It was opened 10 years ago, but we don't have much traffic for 2 reasons:
1. Our runway was built for small aircraft with capacity for 100 passengers or less
2. Our airport is open only for domestic flights and we don't have any international flights.
It was a wonderful summer night. I arrived at the airport at 9.00pm. I was a little nervous because it was the first night I had worked alone. I arrived at the tower and checked some items I would need. I got weather information from Meteorology. The weather was good: no cloud, no wind; everything was perfect for flying.
Then I found the flight plan for BlogJet 7315. Departure time from Istanbul was 10.00pm and it takes nearly 40 minutes from Istanbul to our airport. So I had a lot of spare time.
I opened my computer and started to surf the Internet. At 10.15pm my direct phone rang. It was Izmir ACC. They gave me the estimated time of arrival of BlogJet 7315. Anyway at 10.35 I heard the pilot's voice:
"Edremit Tower BlogJet 7315" and I gave the pilot all the necessary information. At 10.50 the pilot reported over Airport and I cleared him for VOR/DME approach and started to watch the aircraft.
I could see it clearly with my own eyes. It was a romantic view: stars were shining in the sky and the runway lights were sparkling like diamonds. As the aircraft came in for the final I took a puff from my cigarette and said in a clear voice:
"Clear to land Runway 04. Wind calm." Then the pilot made read back. There were only a few seconds to land then suddenly...everything changed.
There was a power cut. Suddenly I found myself in darkness. I thought for a moment that it must be a nightmare. I closed my eyes and opened them again but nothing had changed and I said to myself:
"This is real. I have to do something."
I then took the microphone and said to the pilot:
"Go around. Go around. There is an electricity problem in the airport. Execute missed approach procedure."
I then told him the missed approach procedure. The pilot read back with an angry voice.
Anyway all of the staff in the airport were in a panic. I could hear their voices from the ground wireless. They were shouting at each other:
"Why doesn't the generator work? What's happened to the aircraft?"
So I told them the aircraft was executing missed approach procedure.
"Please inform me when you solve the problem."
Anyway after 3 or 4 minutes the generator started to work and all the lights and equipment came on. I re-cleared the pilot for VOR/DME approach. At the end the plane landed at 11.03pm.
The pilot said to me:
"If the power cut had happened 10 seconds later we would all have died!""
